What does Ping do?

How does Ping Work?
Ping consists of two types of messages specified by the ICMP protocol, the ICMP Echo Request and the Echo Reply.
It uses these two messages to imitate the functionality of a sonar echolocation system, like bats or submarines.
When a source (host or router) performs a Ping, it sends an ICMP Echo Request message to a destination (host or router).
If the destination is alive, it will reply with an ICMP Echo Reply.
The source will also measure the time it takes for the Echo Request to reach its destination and the time it takes for the response to go back to the source (Time, as shown from the output above).
